Refund policy
Refunds
Last updated: 11 October 2026
This policy explains when KENEWA gives money back. KENEWA is a volunteer-run not-for-profit, and most of what members pay goes into the welfare fund that supports families in hard times, so we keep refunds simple and fair. Nothing in this policy limits any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law.
At a glance
| Payment | We refund in full when | Usually not refunded |
|---|---|---|
| Joining fees ($200: $30 registration and $170 welfare fund) | The committee does not approve your application; you paid twice or the wrong amount; you change your mind within 14 days of paying and before the committee approves you | After the committee approves your membership, because you are covered by the welfare fund from that point |
| Annual renewal ($170) | You paid twice or the wrong amount; you paid by mistake after resigning | A renewal for a membership year that has started, if you resign part-way through (constitution clause 16) |
| Event tickets or fees | KENEWA cancels or moves the event; you tell us at least 48 hours before that you can't come | Less than 48 hours' notice, unless we can fill your place |
| Gifts to an appeal, and donations | You gave the wrong amount or gave twice, and you tell us within 7 days, before the money is passed on | Once the money has gone to the family or purpose it was given for (Welfare Fund Policy 6.6) |
| Chama contributions | Chama money is members' own savings, kept apart from KENEWA's money. Leaving a circle and getting contributions back follows the rules that circle's members agreed. | |
If KENEWA makes a mistake, such as charging you the wrong amount, we always fix it.
How to ask for a refund
- Email info@kenewa.org and ask for the Treasurer.
- Tell us your name, member number if you have one, the amount, the date you paid and how you paid.
- The Treasurer replies within 14 days. If we agree, the refund is paid within 14 days after that.
Refunds go back the way you paid: to your card for card payments, or to your bank account for PayID or bank transfer. We refund the full amount and never charge a fee to refund you.
If you disagree
Ask for the committee to review the decision. Committee members who were not part of the first decision will look at it and reply in writing. If you're still unhappy, you can use the dispute resolution steps in Part 9 of the constitution, ask Community Justice Centres for free mediation, or contact NSW Fair Trading.
Welfare support is not a refund
Welfare fund support is decided under the Welfare Fund Policy, based on need and what the fund can afford. It isn't a refund of fees you've paid. See Welfare support.
